Sustainability

Why is HDPE sustainable?

High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is one of the most sustainable plastics on the market. With a lifespan of over 75 years, it reduces the need for frequent replacements, generating less waste over time. Additionally, it is 100% recyclable and can be returned to the production cycle without significant loss of properties.

Proven impact of HDPE recycling

HDPE recycling generates significant and measurable environmental benefits:

  • 33% reduction in energy consumption compared to production from virgin resin
  • 90% reduction in water consumption during the manufacturing process
  • 66% reduction in CO₂ emissions per ton produced

Scientific evidence

Studies conducted by UEM-PR (State University of Maringá) and UNISC-RS (University of Santa Cruz do Sul) confirm that HDPE maintains the stability of its mechanical properties even after multiple reprocessing cycles. This validates the technical and environmental viability of the circular economy as applied to corrugated pipes.

Circular economy at Techduto

Our production model is based on the principles of the circular economy. Production waste is reprocessed internally, returning as raw material for new products. In 2025, we took it a step further: we developed recycled compounds from post-consumer HDPE, closing the material’s life cycle.

Recycling Program

We maintain an active collection and recycling program for post-use HDPE pipes. We work with cooperatives and logistics partners to ensure that discarded pipes return to the production cycle. Every ton of recycled HDPE prevents the extraction of natural resources and reduces CO₂ emissions.

Environmental Benefits of HDPE

Compared to traditional materials such as concrete and metal, HDPE offers significant environmental advantages:

  • Lower carbon footprint in manufacturing and transportation
  • Corrosion resistance eliminates the need for chemical treatments
  • Lightweight design reduces fuel consumption during transport
  • Durability of 75+ years minimizes replacements
  • Inert — does not contaminate soil or groundwater

Environmental goals

We are committed to clear goals for reducing our environmental impact: progressively increasing the use of recycled raw materials, improving energy efficiency in our factories, and reducing solid waste sent to landfills. Techdreno 360° and the 2025 recycled compounds are milestones in this journey.
